Climate Change

Learning about the many ways humans are currently contributing to climate change and the massive CO2 spikes in our atmosphere has made me question many of the habits people generally have. Discovering the devastating impact of freeways and the carbon emissions from our ridiculous use of cars stood out to me the most. The production and consumption of gasoline has major impacts on the environment. Both require processes that pollute the air with CO2 and other undesirable compounds. Being one of the people who decide to commute to work and school using a 5+ person vehicle for just one person, I decided to try and make a change. I discovered that my work is just 4 miles from my house, and school is only 5. Over the past few weeks, I started taking my bike out in the morning to build up my endurance so that I can ride a 0 emission bike rather than taking my car there and back every day. It's been a success! I actually really enjoy taking my bike because I get an endorphin boost and stay more present during my commute. Not only does this make a considerable difference in my personal contribution to climate change and atmospheric damage, but it’s also far cheaper to go without as frequent gas trips and car repairs.

I definitely agree, I feel like a lot of people drive to places that are easily walkable, such as the park that’s only a 5 minute walk. So much energy is wasted.
